The advantages of buying musical recordings as compact discs:
1. Higher fidelity to the original recording. An .mp3 file, used for downloads, is a selection of the sound waves in the recording, while a .wav or .aiff file, used for pressing CDs and vinyl LPs, contains all of the sound waves in the recording.
2. CDs and LPs include the liner notes, artwork and photographs, which are part of the design of the product, in addition to the recorded music.
3. Compact discs are much less likely to be damaged over their lifetime than vinyl long play recordings and cassette tapes.
